A Wee Taste of Home in Tokyo – The Royal Scotsman Pub, Iidabashi
Just a five-minute stroll from the west exit of JR Iidabashi Station, I found a little slice of Scotland tucked away in the heart of Tokyo—The Royal Scotsman.
Run by owner and chef Tomohiro Onuki, this cosy pub blends the charm of a traditional Scottish watering hole with a distinctly Japanese passion for quality and detail. Think warm wood interiors, welcoming smiles, and the kind of pub menu that makes you want to stay for “just one more pint.”Speaking of pints—beer lovers, rejoice! There are six types of craft beer on tap, including the ever-popular Punk IPA, all carefully stored and served with a strong commitment to quality. You can taste the difference in every sip.
Food-wise, expect more than your standard pub grub. Sure, you’ll find classic fish and chips—crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned—but the real treat is the chef’s elaborate British cuisine, crafted with the flair you’d expect from someone trained in France. It’s familiar comfort food, elevated in the best way.
Whether you’re homesick for a Scottish pint or just curious to experience a bit of the UK in Japan, The Royal Scotsman is well worth the visit.
Raise a glass, say “slàinte,” and enjoy a little bit of Scotland in Tokyo.
