I'm Shaun! | 私はショーンです

Hi there! I’m Shaun – a travel-loving Scotsman from Lanarkshire, with a soft spot for sushi, sumo, and occasionally smacking my head on low ceilings in Japan.

At 6'4", I tend to stand out wherever I go—but especially in Japan, where I regularly find myself ducking under doorways, signs, and the occasional sakura branch. You could say I experience Japan from a slightly different angle.

This blog, Dear Japan, Love Scotland, is my way of sharing everything I’ve learned (and bumped into) along the way. It’s full of stories, tips, and observations—sometimes helpful, often humorous, always honest—from the perspective of someone who lives in Scotland but keeps coming back to Japan in search of beauty, culture, and vending machines that defy logic.

Whether you’re a fellow Scot dreaming of your first trip to Japan, an English speaker looking for real advice, or just here for the tall-person travel tales—I’m glad you’ve found your way here.

よろしくお願いします。 (Yoroshiku onegaishimasu – pleased to meet you!)
